His voice was cheery.
"Sure Olivia, I'd be glad to"
Bruce smiled and followed her into the kitchen. Sure that they were out of earshot he move closer and whispered in a worried but gentle tone.
"You moved in with him?"

Harvey rubbed the back of his head, looking faintly embarassed. "Was that the night at Sean Dempsey's bar? I remember it well, and I think I was probably insufferable. If I recall I made you listen to an entire Kate Bush album because it was her favourite and then I fell asleep with my head in your lap. And anyway, that was when I broke up with Carol, not Sayuri."
He looked at Bruce fondly, remembering all the times they had been there for each other through the years - closer than brothers, sharing everything. Harvey couldn't imagine a life without Bruce in it.
Harvey's eyes moved over the decorations and inhaled the rich, spicy scents drifting from the kitchen. "I've never been to New Orleans. It interests me though - that whole tradition of masking and disguise."
He sat down on the couch, genuine happiness in his eyes. "I wasn't expecting any of this. Thank you, everyone."

Olivia looked pained as Bruce questioned her. "Yes." She whispered in response. "I meant to tell you but...just never got around to it. We'll talk later, I promise."
With Bruce's body blocking her from view, Olivia gently touched his face. "I'm sorry, Bruce."
She took a deep breath to steel herself and then poured a glass of wine for Harvey. "Suzume, what would you like to drink? I bought some soda for you."

Suzume watched Bruce and Olivia like a hawk. When the pair went into the kitchen, a knowing smile spread across her face. She'd spent enough time watching other people to be able to read body language fairly well.
She sank onto the couch next to her father and held the package of his presents in her lap. "The credit must go to Olivia." Suzume said grudgingly. "She asked for us to come to the surprise party she had planned."
"Water is fine, Olivia-san." Suzume replied, trying not to look disgusted about speaking to the older woman.
She looked into the kitchen suspiciously. "They seem....close." She said quietly to Harvey.

Harvey rested an arm on the back of the sofa, hand brushing Suzume's shoulder. "Well, I'm glad you're here. I want my girls to get to know each other."
He followed her gaze to the kitchen area. "I know. I'm glad. They seem to have really hit it off. I've known Bruce a long time; he doesn't tend to open up easily, but there's something about Ollie that I think people instinctively trust. She's very easy to talk to. I'm hoping you and her will be good friends."
He turned his head to look at her. "When's your birthday, Suzume?"

Suzume fought the very strong urge to roll her eyes. "Yes, she certainly seems trustworthy. She's like a bunny rabbit."
"November 22nd." Suzume replied before passing the package to him. "Here, open this, otousan. Today is about you, not me or her."

Bruce poured himself a glass of wine and downed it quickly with his back turned before he fixed himself another. He turned to look back into the living room giving a chuckle.
"Hey Harve....got anything stronger than this lying around. How are we going to relive the old days and mourn getting older with anything less than 80 proof?"

Harvey looked towards the kitchen and gave a short laugh. "A bunny rabbit? As much in love with her as I am, I have a hard time seeing Ollie as a rabbit. Hmm.. if she were an animal I think she'd be a dove."
He smiled at his daughter. "Your birthday is on the 22nd? That's perfect." He took the parcel with a smile. "Thank you, Suzume. I'll open it as soon as Ollie and Bruce get back in."
He looked up as Bruce re-entered with a glass of wine. He got to his feet and crossed to the drinks cabinet in the corner, pouring two generous measures of scotch. He handed one to his friend.
"Here you go, Bruce. Enjoy. This will be just like old times."

Bruce sat his wine aside as he accepted the scotch. Taking a sip he smiled.
"Now that's the good stuff."
He looked at the present Suzume had brought. Thinking this was as good a time as any he reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope.
"Here Harve, I got you these."

Harvey clinked his glass against Bruce and followed suit.
He opened the envelope to find a pair of VIP theatre tickets; a box for the opening night of a new production of Swan Lake. He'd always written off ballet as a soppy bunch of girls jumping around in their tights but he'd seen an interview with the director in the arts section of the local newspaper and been struck by the themes of duality the director ws focusing on. He'd gazed at the publicity picture of the red-eyed, lustful Black Swan for a long time.
He smiled at his friend "Thanks, Bruce, this is great. I guess those ballerinas' phone numbers come in handy."
He opened the parcel from Suzume to find a beautifully crafted sake flask and set of cups along with a expensive bottle of sake. He ran his fingers over the smooth, lacquered surface. "These are beautiful, thank you Suzi." He planted a kiss on the top of her head.
