Appearance: Richard stands tall at 6'3 ” with very toned muscles, especially on his legs, arms and core. His hair is short and extremely dark brown, almost seeming black, tending to flick in different directions. He weighs 200 pounds due to his athletic past and present, he has bright blue eyes and naturally slightly tanned skin. His casual attire would be a simple shirt and jeans with baseball boots. A vast contrast to his alter ego attire of a high-tech Nomex fire-resistant, triple-weave Kevlar-lined material black body suit, immaculate protection against damage, and it's also electrically insulated. The suit is light sensitive, darkening when there is more light in the area and specially altered for his acrobatic style of combat with the design of electric blue "wings" that carry in bold lines down his shoulders, chest and arms to his two middle fingers along with a black eye mask. His mask holds a radio transmitter/reciever and Starlite night-vision lenses. He wears black jumper boots and gauntlets that have compartments for all his equipment such as; a taser charge that would emit an electric shock to anyone who tries to tamper with them, smoke pellets and gas capsules to knock enemies unconcious in an escape. His right gauntlet includes a stun gun. His utility belt holds compartments for flares, a re-breather for intoxication situations, lock picks, a small first aid kit and a halogen flash light. His gauntlets also included grappling and swing lines.
Personality: Even though Dick has been shadowed over and cast out in his life he has strong potential to be a leader, having the characteristics of selflessness; enjoying helping others, especially in the name of justice. He finds the willpower to fight crime due to his sense of compassion and allowing himself to be sensitive in the needs of others. He is very expressive especially through humour, sarcasm being one of his potent features. He has a strong human understanding and his personal ambitions are viewed in a positive perspective.
Sometimes he can be self-centred, his most important views in life being love, friendship and affection. He sometimes only feels the need to fight for these because of his own beliefs but constantly seeing the state of the city he's living in he's reminded he can do more. He is much the adventurer and is idealistic of a life filled with freedom and spontaneity, helpful in his style of combat- enemies and targets often find themselves wishing they expected the unexpected when hit to the ground. Special Abilities: Richard is extremely skilled in melee combat and weaponry. Intense training in martial arts such as; Judo, Escrima, Savate, Capoiera, Aikido, Wing Chun, Jujutsu, Tae Kwon Do along with his acrobatic skills, he has a very graceful, elegant fighting style. He prefers unarmed combat but will often use a pair of Escrima sticks. He has excellent stealth, tracking and is a skilled escapologist. He is also proficient in the art of disguise and finds it easy to pretend to be one of his various aliases to gather information from various police officers and doctors on criminals.
History: Dick's parents, John and Mary Grayson worked in the circus business as aerialists, a famous duo who travelled with The Haley Circus around the USA. Once their first son, Richard, was born they tought him the skills of an acrobat, he undertook a lifestyle of watching his parents perform on trapeze behind the curtains, cheap travel food and friends who were trained in attributes such as illusionary magic, balancing on ropes and dancing, all the while he was happy. He was always eager to perform with his parents but was restricted due to his young age, never the less his parents promised that once he came of proffesionalism and age he would be allowed to.
In 2000, once he turned 12 his family rewarded him the ability to perform on trapeze in front of an audience, excited and enthuasiastic to show his earned traits he wasted no time and began the very night of his birthday. His performance was successful, attracting attention from the Gotham Gazette as the youngest trapeze artist to be born in Gotham. He enjoyed the publicity, enthused to expand his skill on trapeze but John and Mary kept him wary of what he was capable of.
The next year, while Richard was preparing for his show he over heard an argument between two gangsters who wanted to extort money from the circus owner, the owner refused, so the gangsters sabotaged the trapeze wire with acid, putting anyone who held it in danger. John and Mary, who were to perform next, began their show on the trapeze only to fall from the wire that snapped, resulting in their deaths. As Richard grieved over the loss of his family he was taken to a Catholic orphanage where he lived for a month, shortly after discovered by the rich and prestigious Tracy Elliot who's husband was an acclaimed surgeon, known for his life-saving procedures.
The husband, Thomas Elliot was claimed to adopt Richard out of want for publicity but the real story was the opposite. Tracy was unable to concieve children and strived for a family. She warmed to the young Grayson, loved and cared for him, raised him to the respectable man he is today but allowing him to keep his positive, down-to-earth personality. Although his adoptive father rejected the idea of having a son, ignoring him and taking him to lavish parties only because his wife wanted to. Dick was nothing but a shadow to Thomas.
When Richard reached adolescence he undertook martial art lessons, an interest of his that he'd been wishing to take as a hobby, his mother (wanting him to have the best of everything) booked him private lessons with a proffesional martial artist who tought him extremely well over the course of seven years. Richard realised during his training his potential to help people. He'd been more than aware of the criminal state of the city and felt passionate to help the citizens of Gotham. His mother suggested joining the police Department but he was stubborn and wanted to be recognised for his work. He was inspired by the many superhero comics he read and wanted to be someone real for the people of Gotham to look to for help. And so he became Nightwing, using his parents money to supply him with what he needed but keeping it a secret from his mother.
