Finally it was over. A three week trial involving a major crime lord and it was over, with a not guilty verdict. Not that it made Elizabeth feel any better about herself, putting Alessandro di Cosimo back on the streets again. But it paid her bills and paid the rent on her apartment, and for that, she could sleep at night. She knew the man was as guilty as sin, but the pay was just too good to refuse.
She left the court room close beside di Cosimo, walking in perfect pace with him with her head up. Some people applauded her, some glowered, but she was used to it by now. She bid the slick Italian farewell at his car and then moved across the parking lot to where her slate blue Dodge Viper was sitting, mentally noting that this trial would finish paying her notes on it.
Though she looked like the victorious lawyer, she felt horrible on the inside. Jim Gordon had been called by the prosecution to testify, and she had laid into him. Not that she had gotten vicious, but she tore him to shreds, and she felt horrible for it. Why, she was not sure. She never felt bad about it. If anything, it always made her feel better. But this one was eating her up.
She moved to the side of her car, but did not get in just yet. She reached into her bag and pulled out a small, silver flask. She opened it, the smell of brandy tainting the air, and took a quick sip. If may only be three in the afternoon, but it was five o'clock somewhere.
She leaned against the side of her car, crossing her legs and sipping on her flask slowly.

After the trial, Jim had slipped out of the court. However, he'd taken the long way to his car, which had been (whether fortunately or unfortunately, you decide) parked next to Elizabeth, he hadn't minded overly about her questioning, yes, it had been somewhat vicious, but he knew that it could get like that. He had, however, seen a different side to Elizabeth and found out why everyone called her the pitbull in lipstick.
As he walked over to his car, he saw her drinking and smiled softly.
"Isn't it a little early to be drinking, pitbull?" He asked jokingly, he hoped he hadn't offended her with the nickname, also hoping that his tone had given away that he didn't mean to offend her.

Elizabeth looked up when a voice spoke to her, calling her by her nickname. She quickly put her flask away and turned to see Jim Gordon walking to his car, parked beside her own. She smiled slightly, a half-hearted and slightly ashamed smile. "It's five o'clock somewhere." She replied simply, shrugging. She looked away from his face as a black limo drove by, di Cosimo waving to her from the back seat. She waved back politely before turning to look back at Jim.
She looked at her feet, embarrassed now. If anything had ruined the possibility of something forming between the two of them, it had been her behavior earlier, at least in her mind. She looked back up at him after a moment, her half smile still on her face. "Sorry about earlier..." She said softly. Elizabeth had been taught that your friends were your enemies when you get in court, but she still felt guilty about it.

Jim chuckled at her reasoning for drinking now and gave a shrug at her apology. He didn't need an apology from her, he knew that she was only doing her job.
"It's fine and to be expected." He said, smile on his face as he spoke softly. "It's your job." He added gently, before inclining his head slightly in what would normally be seen as defeat, but it was just Jim's way of asking about another subject without actually talking.

Elizabeth smiled slightly. "I'm glad. I'd hate to lose your friendship." She replied, her accent still hanging heavy. She crossed her arms over her chest, still leaning back against her car. She watched him lower his head, a sign of defeat, and a request to change the subject.
"Well, hun, I am famished. I've worked straight through the day without a scrap of food and I was thinking about grabbin' an early dinner." She stepped away from her car and unlocked it, smiling. "Would you like to join me? My treat."

Jim gave a soft nod. Thinking about it, he was also hungry, now that she'd mentioned food, and he decided that, as long as it was in public, he didn't have any reason not to.
"Sure, where?" He asked, moving to the driver's door to unlock his car. He knew that he'd feel a lot more comfortable in his own car, ever since that night. Opening the car door, he looked at her with a somewhat expectant expression, waiting for an answer before he got into his car. It always helped to know where you're going before leaving.

Elizabeth seriously had to stop and think for a moment. What was she in the mood for? She glanced over at Gordon as she thought, and immediately, her mind went to a darker place and told her exactly what she was in the mood for. She immediately pushed that out of her mind and played it off with a smile.
"To be honest, I could go for some good Mexican food. There's a great place just up the road if you want to follow me? It's kind of a hole in the wall, but it's great food." She replied, smiling slightly.

Jim nodded, glad she hadn't said her penthouse. He nodded when she said about him following her, finding that to be the best idea currently.
"Sure, lead the way." He smiled before climbing into his car and starting it, hoping she was one step ahead of him at the moment. He didn't want to have to wait for her for too long.

Elizabeth smiled and slid into her car, starting it up. The engine of the dodge viper purred as it came to life. She quickly shifted it into drive and waited until she was sure Gordon has his car started before she pulled it out of the parking lot. It was a quick drive to the Mexican restaurant, and Elizabeth parked her car out front.
Making sure she was lined up in the parking space, she quickly checked her make up in the pull down mirror before she turned the car off and stepped out. She closed the door and locked it.

His car having started with a small cough, Jim followed her car, impressive just like her penthouse had been, at a fair distance. Far enough away that he had the correct stopping distance but close enough that he couldn't lose her, not that there was that much of a distance in which to lose her.
When they parked, Jim had made sure to be almost perfectly parked next to her before cutting the engine and also getting out, shutting and locking the door out of habit. He waited for her politely while she also got out of her car. He didn't think that marching off alone would be the nicest thing in the world to do, truth be told.

Elizabeth moved with grace and elegance to his side, offering another half-hearted smile. She then moved to the door, stepping inside and moving to her favorite spot, a small booth in the corner. She waited for him to begin to sit before she sat down.
She crossed her legs beneath the table, taking her cell phone out of her pocket and setting it on the table top so she could get to it if it were to ring.

Jim smiled at her before they entered the place. He followed her to the booth, and began to sit before she had. He looked around, smiling softly. It looked like a good place, he wasn't sure what the food here would be like, but he could try it anyway. Didn't know what you liked until you tried... Well... Most of the time, anyway. The same couldn't be said for somethings, pets, people... How exactly you try people was something Jim wasn't sure about but he didn't let the answer worry him too much.
"What would you recommend?" He asked Elizabeth gently while reaching for a menu.

Elizabeth didn't even pick up her menu, she knew exactly what she wanted. She usually ate out, with clients or simply for not wanting to cook, and this was a frequent haunt. "Honestly, I've never had anything in here I don't like." She replied with a small smile. She bit down gently on her bottom lip, looking down at her hands in her lap.
Her phone vibrated and she picked it up, flipping it open to see who was trying to get in touch with her. She smiled slightly at the text message from her father displayed on the screen. It was a true smile, one of the first ones she had given in weeks. She sent a quick text message back before putting her phone down, still smiling slightly.

Jim noticed her smile but didn't ask. It wasn't his business. His gaze ran down the menu and he soon picked something, though what he decided to keep secret for now. Glancing at her, Jim gave a small smile.
"Who was that? If you don't mind my asking." He asked, putting his menu on the table and putting his arms on it, leaning on the table. He pushed his glasses up a little as they'd begun to slip down.
((I don't actually know any Mexican dishes... .-.))

Her phone vibrated again a moment later and she smiled once more, a little wider this time. She texted back and closed her phone once more, putting it down. She looked up, surprised when Gordon spoke once more. "Oh..." she trailed off, slightly embarrassed by how happy even hearing from her family made her.
"My father, back home in Georgia." She replied softly, still smiling slightly. She exhaled slowly and uncrossed her legs onto to recross then opposite, her foot accidentally brushing his leg beneath the table. She blushed bright red, willing it to go away. "Sorry."
