Batman scaled the perimeter fence of the asylum withe ease. Using his grappling gun he ascended to the room. He began to monitor the Gardens and windows. He was going to make his way to the cell. He needed to confront the Joker about his rampage. Batman had failed to be there when he was needed. He wasn't pleased. He knew the Joker would escape again, but for him to do so as soon as he did was unexpected. The fact the he had returned was even more unsettling. Sure that he was clear he descended into a garden, making his way for a door through which to break in.
He turned abruptly and ducked into the shadows. He wasn't alone.

Joker needed some fresh air. He was still quite frustrated with Harley and Goodnite made his head hurt, not to mention that he was just tired of being stuck in a cell.
He had no issue getting out. Though most people weren't yet aware, Joker had almost all of Arkham's guards in his pocket. He strolled out into the garden, smiling widely as the cool air hit his face.
He peered up at the moon, partly veiled behind thin clouds. Pale moonlight struck his face and cast an eerie glow upon his skin. His gaze lowered to the skyline of Gotham and he grinned at the sight of the faintly flickering lights. He loved this city.

Batman circled around silently, keeping in the shadows. The joker stood before him gazing up at the moon. His sunken eyes were veiled in darkness. Batman was still a moment as he took in the eerie figure. He spoke.
"Get back in your cage."

Joker showed no sign of surprise. The only change in his body language was a slight curling of his lips.
"I was wondering when you'd find me, big guy. I've been waiting."

Batman took a few steps forward. He materialized out of the shadows.
"You filthy degenerate."

Joker stayed where he was, turning only his head to look at the black clad man. A sinister grin split his pale face. "Oh, now that's not very nice, Mr. Vigilante. You really should be more friendly to people. Wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong impression, now would you?"
He plopped to the ground and leaned casually on his elbows, ankles crossed. "So what brings you to Arkham? Surely you couldn't know that little ol'me would be outside this fine evening."

Batman stood still as Joker sat on the ground.
"I came here to give you warning. A time is coming when men like you will have no power. You'll be nothing, and men like me wont be needed. A time where innocent people can go to the theater and see a show without fearing for their lives."

Joker looked the imposing figure with interest. "You sound a little bitter about my ah...show. Why? Did I kill your girlfriend or something? I doubt you're all wound up about Mr. President. Nobody liked him."
He leaned forward slightly. "Do you really believe that there will ever be a time that Gothamites have nothing to fear?"

Batman surged forward and made to pick Joker up by his throat.
"You can't just go around playing with people's lives! One day this city will breathe clean air again, free of your stench. I'll save this city."

Joker had been waiting for a sign of movement. At the last possible moment he dove out of the way, cackling. He ended up to Batman's side and aimed a kick for the back of the man's kneecap.
His eyes lit up at the words. "You'll stop believing that. Gotham can't be saved. Trust me, I know. I have seen this city's true colors, her dark side. I've been to the depths of Hell and back in Gotham, can you say the same? Do you truly know your city, Batman?"

Batman let his knee buckle to soften the impact of the blow. As he began to go down he pivoted on his foot, placing his hands the ground for balance, bringing his other leg in a sweeping backward kick aimed for Joker's head.

Joker flattened himself to the ground just in time. He felt the air from Batman's kick stir his hair and laughed. He rolled to his size and sprung to his feet, dashing just out of reach. "You ah, never answered my question, Bats. I'd appreciate it if you would."
Joker crouched down, poised for retaliation. His right hand rested lightly on the ground. He was practically trembling with excitement at the knowledge of what was hidden just out of sight next to his hand. He did enjoy planning ahead...

Batman regained his footing. Standing several feet away from the Joker he put him self in a solid stance in case the other man attempted to rush him.
"I've seen more hells than I can count. All of them a thousand times worse than this city. You claim to have seen this city's dark side. But you forget, I am the night. Every day innocent people go out fearing that some mysterious unstoppable force will snatch their happiness away. It's time that their enemies feared shared their fear."

Joker looked up at Batman, eyes shadowed. "You're the night? Oh please, don't flatter yourself. You have to be on the scene a little longer in order to earn a name like that. You don't see me running around calling myself the Clown Prince of Crime...though I've thought about it."
He shifted his weight slightly, muscles tense with anticipation. "How'd ya like my little message I left? I've been wanting to get a proper look at you since you knocked me out cold in that hotel. You're...different. I like different."

Batman rushed forward in a rage. A man had been killed to send a message to him. It wasn't supposed to be like that. He was supposed to be saving people not acting as the cause of their death. He let out a guttural yell.
"You're an Animal!"
