Appearance: Suzume could almost pass as a full blood Japanese, save for her bright blue eyes and strong nose. She stands at 5’4” with straight, black hair. She is in excellent shape from years of martial arts training.
Personality: In her short 16 years of life, Suzume has already experienced enough hardship and tragedy to turn her bitter. She has an incredibly quick and violent temper.
Suzume has no qualms about taking human life. She killed for the first time when she was 12 years old and has not looked back since. Though she does not enjoy taking orders, Suzume has always tried her best to be a dutiful student, which has paid off.
Special Abilities: Suzume has been trained in martial arts practically since she could walk. She is especially skilled in the ways of kenjutsu with her prized katana and jujutsu.
Suzume was taught English as a child and is now fluent in both Japanese and English.
History: Suzume was born in Kobe, Japan to Akita Sayuri in 1994. Sayuri had become pregnant while studying at the University of Gotham. She finished her year before returning to Japan. Sayuri took the next semester off in order to give birth. Her parents were highly disappointed, but they allowed their daughter to stay at home with them until the child was born.
Sayuri put the infant up for adoption and left, choosing to never hold her child. The only information she gave them was her own name, as well as the name of the baby’s father.
Suzume was adopted by the Takenaka family when she was only a few months old. Haru and Rin had found out that they were unable to have children and opted for adoption.
Haru was, at the time, a mid level member of the Yamaguchi-gumi Yakuza crime family. Rin was highly supportive of his activities and encouraged Suzume to become involved. They pushed her into martial arts at an early age, in which she thrived.
The first setback that the young family faced was the earthquake in 1995. Rin was killed and their house was destroyed, along with all of their possessions. Luckily for Haru and Suzume, they had the Yakuza to fall back on and were able to get back on their feet.
Suzume was always rather reserved. She had few close friends growing up, choosing instead to spend her extra time with her jujutsu master training.
When Suzume was 14, her father, now a shateigashira (second lieutenant) in the Yamaguchi-gumi family, angered the oyabun (family boss) of the rival Sumiyoshi-kai. Suzume was held hostage for several days before the Yamaguchi-gumi were able to free her. With her father shamed and her pride broken, the pair’s relationship was never the same.
Suzume’s cold reserve and skills with a katana as well as combat impressed Shinobu Tsukasa, their oyabun. On her 16th birthday, he asked her to accompany a small group of Yakuza to Gotham City to extend the reach of the crime family. Suzume agreed, hoping that this would allow her to finally get her big break in becoming a oyabun herself one day.
