Bruce was unable to resist Harvey's pull. As he was forced onto the balcony and over the rail his heart leapt into his throat. He was instantly sobered by the reality of the situation. He stared into the street far below, his voice struggling to hide his desperation. If he was thrown there was no chance. He hadn't brought his grapple gun. He had come only as Bruce Wayne and Bruce Wayne couldn't save himself from such a fall. His eyes flicked to look at Harvey out the Corner of his eye. He spoke in a raspy whisper.
"Harvey! Don't!"

Olivia watched in horror as the men fought. She hadn't wanted to get in the middle but as Two-Face dragged Bruce out she knew she had no choice. Forcing herself to come to her senses Olivia quickly picked up the discarded gun and checked it. Two bullets, how poetic.
Hands shaking, she made sure the safety was off before making her way out to the balcony. She fired once, making sure to aim towards the railing to their left so there was no chance of it hitting either man. The sound of the gun and shattering glass made her flinch but she steeled herself before aiming at Two-Face.
"Let him go." She said, voice thick with emotion. "Harvey, let him go. This has gone far enough and I will not let you kill your best friend."
Fresh tears slid from her eyes as she looked at the man who had completely changed her life and made her whole. "Please," she whispered. "I love you, Harvey Dent, don't make me do this. I won't miss the second time so end this now."

Two-Face jumped at the deafening noise of the gun, instinctively ducking. He blanched as he turned his head and saw Olivia holding the discarded .22 .
Hi grip on Bruce did not relax, and he snarled in thwarted anger. "I am not Harvey Dent," he growled. "And he was never my friend."
He looked again at the gun, breathing hard through gritted teeth. It wasn't much of a weapon but at this distance it could easily bore a hole through his skull. He'd be dead before he hit the floor. He shook his head; there was no way out. Slowly, he pulled Bruce back from the balcony rail, allowing him to find his feet, then let him go. "This isn't over," he hissed, before retreating back to the darkness of Harvey's head.
Harvey Dent stood facing them both, panting slightly and looking down the barrel of the gun. "I always knew I didn't deserve you, Olivia," he said softly. He looked at Bruce, his eyes anguished. "But you and I, Bruce... I thought we'd last forever."

Bruce backed away from the balcony slowly. He took deep breathes trying to control his heart rate. He couldn't barely believe what had just happened. That anger, and that Rage. Is that what Harvey felt? Had he glimpsed the beast that his old friend struggled with. No. Harvey was worse off. Bruce couldn't cheapen his friend's plight in that way. He leaned back against the couch, running his hand over his eyes.
"Harvey...I....I'm sorry."
He let out a deep sigh. Facing both his mortality and his uncontrolled rage had taken a toll. He looked over at Olivia. If she hadn't been there he could be dead right now. Bruce Wayne, The Batman, reduced to nothing more than a splatter on the sidewalk. All that strength and faith in truth and justice smashed in an instant.
"Olivia.........I........I'm.......thank...you."

Olivia didn't back down in the face of Two-Face's anger. She knew that he was far too fond of himself to get killed so easily but still felt a wave of relief as Harvey came back.
She lowered the gun and ran a trembling hand over her face. Her father had taught her how to shoot but she'd never actually pointed it at someone before. It was terrifying.
Looking between Harvey and Bruce, Olivia felt her anger boil over and she narrowed her eyes. "What the fuck is wrong with you two?" She snarled, eyes blazing. "That was absolutely ridiculous. I don't even..."
Breathing heavily, Olivia clicked the safety back on and chucked the gun off of the balcony before spinning to face Bruce. "Get out." She hissed, hardly recognizing her voice. "Get the fuck out of here. I can't believe you. Antagonizing someone who's already on the edge of a break down? Disgusting. You're no better than he is. Now either go wait in the car or call me a cab. I'll start looking for somewhere else to stay in the morning."
She rounded on Harvey, angry tears spilling down her cheeks. "And you. Are you trying to prove me wrong about you? I love you, Harvey. I tried to work it out with you but you denied us that chance. You have no right to attack Bruce for something that was my fault. I don't...I can't even look at you. At either of you!"
With one last disgusted look at the pair of them, Olivia stormed into the bedroom to finish packing.

Bruce was dumfounded. Olivia's anger cut him like a knife. He struggled with himself for a moment. Should he assert himself? No. There was nothing more to be done here. He had learned more than he had expected by coming here. About Harvey and himself. There was so much to think about. So much to try and fix. For all of them. He walked over to the door and paused. He looked first at Olivia and then to Harvey.
"Goodbye."
He took the stairs slowly. Mulling over the events of the night in his head. Once on the street he went to the car and got in. A bead of moisture appeared in the corner of his eye. He let it sit there for a moment before he wiped it away with his sleeve. He sat in silence, waiting for Olivia to come down, his eyes dry as bone.

Harvey only stood in silence and gazed at Bruce with pure hate as he left, but his stomach lurched suddenly. For a moment he wanted to run after him, tell him that he was sorry for the things he had said - that he couldn't lose Bruce; the only person left from his old life who remembered who he was and who cared for him. Who saw him as a man still, not a monster. He took half a step forward and faltered.
~Too late, Harvey~ His dark self whispered in his head. ~It's too late. For all four of us. Let go of him. And her.~
Harvey shook his head desperately and strode quickly into the bedroom, not knowing what he was going to say or do when he faced Olivia.
"Ollie, I..." He stepped forwards and pulled her to him. "I love you so much. I never thought we would end like this. I'm so sorry. For hurting you, for... for everything."
He buried his face in her hair, his eyes squeezed shut and voice shaking with desperation. "God, I wish you'd never met me. Bruce is right, all I ever did was bring you pain."

It felt as if her entire world was falling apart and Olivia gasped at how badly it hurt. Nothing made sense anymore and she just wanted to curl up and die. Everything ached.
She glanced up miserably as Harvey entered the room. When he pulled her to him Olivia stiffened at first but quickly allowed herself to be comforted by his warmth. She clung to him desperately for several long moments before pulling herself together enough to pull back slightly and look up at him.
She searched his face, hating herself for the pain she found there. "Don't say that, Harvey, you brought me so much more. You...you make me feel alive."
With trembling hands she reached up to cup his face. "I'm sorry." She whispered. "Harvey, this is all my fault. I am more sorry than you'll ever know but you have to understand that I don't want anybody else. I love you and I made a mistake. Please, Harvey. Neither of us want this so why can't we just...why can't we just fix it?"

Harvey reached up and took both her hands, kissing the palms and holding them both tight to his chest.
He searched her face. "Because I'm not a good man, Olivia. Because I'm a danger to every last speck of light and life that comes near me."
His arms moved around her again and he held her desperately tightly. "And I can't stop thinking of teh two of you together. I wish i could, Ollie, but I can't. It's like a fire, and I'm constantly burning with it. I forgive you, I do. But I can't forget."

Olivia extricated herself from his arms and moved unsteadily to the bed. She sank down on it and stared blankly at her hands. "This isn't fair." Her voice was almost inaudible.
She swallowed heavily and looked up at him miserably. "All I want is to be happy, Harvey. You think you're good at destroying the light in your life? Well, so am I. Look at me. I've practically nuked the only bridge I have ever wanted to hold on to. You're the only person I've ever pictured marrying. Its just...none of this is fair."
She buried her face in her hands. "Please, Harvey just...if you're going to give up so easily then fine. So be it. Tell me where the laundry hamper is so I can get the rest of my things and I'll be out of your hair."
She paused and then looked up at him once more, jaw set. "I would have done it, you know. I would have pulled that trigger."

Harvey's eyes were bleak. "Whatever is?"
He moved close to her and reached out, slowly stroking through her soft hair. "You can be happy without me. You can work."
He was momentarily distracted by her question. "I sent some of your things for dry cleaning. I'll have them delivered to Wayne Manor."
Harvey sank down beside her and rested his elbows on his knees. His head throbbed with Two-Face's rage. "I know," he said softly. There was a touch of pride in his voice - pride at her strength and determination. "I can think of worse ways to die. Maybe you should have done it. You'd have become a bigger hero to the city than I ever was."

"But I don't want to be happy without you." Olivia said miserably. "Guess it doesn't matter what I want any more."
She shook her head, hating the idea of the fame she would get if she had shot him. She knew what he said was true and that she'd be considered a hero. Someone would have probably made a Lifetime movie out of the whole thing. "I can think of better ways to become a hero, Harvey. What you tried to do for Gotham was more than most people will even consider doing in their lives. Whether you like it or not you're a hero and you always will be...to me, at least."
She reached over and grasped his much larger hand with her own. "We're really finished, aren't we?" Olivia asked resignedly.

Harvey leaned over ad kissed the top of her head. "But you will be. Soon. I'm sure of it."
He laced his fingers with hers and sat looking fdown at her small hand in his, silent for a long moment. "I wish there was some way out of this, Olivia. I'll never forget you. Us. I don't think I'll know anyone with such goodness, ever again."

"You're being such a coward." Olivia muttered, staring at their linked hands. "How do you ever expect to be happy if you rely on a coin to tell you what to do in relationships? Be your own man, Harvey Dent."
She pulled her hand away and sighed heavily. "Well, I hope you're happy with just throwing in the towel. I suppose mediocrity is something you've made yourself get used to."
Olivia leaned over and planted a lingering kiss to the side of his mouth. "I love you, you stupid bastard. Don't ever forget that."
